Story Background:
The First Plot:
The Rise of the New Souls
By the Immortal Keepers Sui Mei and Cold Flare

Slowly the Paths of Cultivation were uncovered by the dwellers of the World, and though none have yet achieved Nirvana many now know the way. Thus, powers once considered out of reach of mortals are now known to all. The act of harnessing the power of the Five Elements, once only thought to be the domain of the Gods, are now seen as mere child’s play; even the lowliest of the apprentice Fa Shis can conjure a fire with only the force of his will. Such was the sheer simplicity of it that even the Taoists marvel at how these commoners manage to unlock such virtuous stages at so little time when the Taoists themselves spend almost an eternity just in reaching a Cultivation Path!

But the Paths, though concealed, were laid to waste by the Soulless. Many were lost seeking the wrong path, and some have even joined their ranks. Soon the citadels of the World were next, suffering relentless sieges. Implored by the Sages, the Path-seekers declared war upon those who seek to destroy the Path, swearing that their lives will be for the seeking and the protection of the Path. With ever-increasing force and numbers they advanced against the hordes of the Soulless, cleansing the World of the taint that the Void had unleashed.

And the tides are changing, it seemed. The once-daily assaults on the four main cities of the World have become rare occurrences; the arrows originally meant for slaying the offspring of the Void were now used against fowl, and the swords used to vanquish those who were tainted were now mere heirlooms of clans: passed on from father to son but always sheathed. Peace finally seemed to be at hand.

But the Loom of Destiny and the Weaning Knives are still lost, and the once-fair Immaculate Lady stirs in her prison atop the jagged peaks. The Soulless will soon return not just to decimate the Paths but also the cities of the Path-seekers, and as every Sage knows, it is the hearts of those who are young and innocent that they will strike first.
And they did.

The plan was executed so smoothly that everyone in the World was taken with surprise and horror at the precision of it. It was just when the sun had risen from the horizon of the Wuji Sea , when Three Cities of the Three Races: Sword, Feather, and Beast were suddenly besieged by hundreds of Soulless troops. The outlying settlements had been taken in by force before them–the few survivors did not even manage to light the warning beacons–when the Legion of the Soulless marched straight into the cities, slaying the dwellers that dared stand up to them. Truly the attack was a marvel of planning that none of the Sages and Taoists were prepared; not even one had a premonition of this siege, for the previous sieges were thwarted by a mix of prophecy and cunning.

Fortunately, the three Taoists of the three Cities ?€“ the KongKong, MangMang, and MiaoMiao Taoists, through their abilities with their Cultivation, managed to commune directly with the Regretless Immortal of the Dragon City and managed to alert everyone within his cultivation training in time.

The order was passed immediately and those already residing in Dragon City and undertaking deeper Paths of Cultivation answered to the call. The Leaders and the Marshals unsheathed their swords, their Clans ordered to be at the ready. A suspension of hostilities was commanded by the warlords as the Clans banded together in a temporary alliance to repel the invasion. But as they were to set out, legions of the Soulless arrived there as well, darkening the skies with the aura of their taint.

Huddled together in hidden chambers of each city built for that sole purpose; from the treetops of Feather, the caves of the Beasts and the underground chambers of Sword, the dwellers starting out in their own Paths now slowly wait ?€“ wait to die, perhaps, or wait to be saved. They cannot forever hide in these chambers–soon the Soulless would sniff them out and consume their existence entirely. Human, Wingkin, and Beastkin lives are on the line. Can they be saved in time before it is too late?
